Many of the programs that help most are delivered locally, and eligibility for Medicaid alongside Medicare is more common — and more useful — than most families realize.

• Contact the Eldercare Locator (eldercare.acl.gov or 1-800-677-1116) to find the Area Agency on Aging serving a specific address.
• Ask whether the person may qualify for Medicaid alongside Medicare (dual eligibility) or for PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), which can cover medications and other care costs for those who qualify.
